As the leaves start to fall, you might notice something extra happening—your hair seems to be shedding a bit more. Don’t worry, you’re not alone! Many of us experience more hair shedding in the fall, and while it can be a little frustrating, it’s totally normal. Let’s break down why this happens and how you can combat fall shedding while keeping your hair healthy and strong.
The Science of Fall Shedding: What’s Going On?
Every hair on your head goes through a growth cycle, which includes the telogen phase—the resting stage where the hair eventually falls out to make room for new growth. In the fall, more of your hair may enter this phase, leading to extra shedding. This is partly influenced by the seasonal change and shorter daylight hours. It’s kind of like how trees lose their leaves in autumn. 🍁
But here’s the good news: shedding is part of the natural hair cycle, and you can absolutely support healthy regrowth during this time. Below are some of my favorite tips to help your hair thrive!
5 Tips to Manage Fall Shedding & Support Hair Growth
1. Scalp Microneedling with Procell Growth Factor Serum
One of the best ways to stimulate hair growth is through scalp microneedling. This treatment uses tiny, painless needles to create micro-channels in your scalp, boosting blood circulation and collagen production. At AM Aesthetics, we also use Procell’s growth factor serum (derived from bone marrow), which delivers natural proteins directly to your follicles for even more powerful results. While one session helps, multiple treatments are recommended for long-lasting hair regrowth.
2. Nourish Your Body with Nutrient-Rich Foods Healthy hair starts with a balanced diet. Make sure to eat foods rich in biotin, iron, zinc, and vitamin D—these nutrients are essential for hair health. Load up on leafy greens, nuts, eggs, and lean proteins to keep your hair strong.
3. Stay Hydrated Your scalp needs hydration just like your skin! Drink plenty of water daily, and give your hair some love with a hydrating mask or leave-in treatment to lock in moisture.
4. Scalp Massages with Essential Oils Massaging your scalp with essential oils like rosemary or peppermint oil can help stimulate blood flow, promoting healthy hair growth. Plus, it feels amazing and helps you unwind!
5. Be Gentle with Your Hair Avoid tight hairstyles, heat styling, and over-brushing during this time. Let your hair breathe and give it a break from anything that could cause unnecessary stress.
